« It is at age 7 that emerged my passion for butterflies. One of my cousins had to do a class science project about insects, and that is when she taught me the basics of butterfly collecting ( netting, displaying, pinning, etc). That was the starting point of my passion for collecting butterflies !

I was also privileged, since my father used to bring the family on fishing trips each week-end. Because mosquitos seemed to have a specific fondness for my blood, I felt the need to "run away" from the lake’s edge, away from the Red Cross blood collection! It is during these moments that I chased butterflies in order to keep moving and to avoid the mosquito’s vampiric bites !
My passion for butterflies swiftly took over my other collections – stamps, Lego Blocks, rocks – and it rapidly became my favourite subject for those dreadful oral productions. Each year, the collection kept growing, as well as my knowledge of the bugs. »

Established in 1998, Gaia Nature is the result of a long-lasting passion for insects, passion that has been growing for 20 years. Since we are a top butterfly provider for many events and projects, we have felt the need to develop a vast array of services and products to answer our client’s growing needs and to adapt ourselves to the quality requirements of butterfly breeding.

Founder of the CBBEA (Canadian Butterfly Breederes and Exhibitors Association), we have hosted the 3rd annual CBBEA conference held in Montreal in March 2004.
We are also member of the AEAQ (Association des Entomologistes Amateurs du Québec) ) and of the SEQ (Société d’Entomologie du Québec),as well as being a proud member of the IBBA (International Butterfly Breeders Association) and of the IABE (International Association of Butterfly Exhibitors). ).A noteworthy presence at the famous conference of the ICBES (International Conference of Buterfly Breeders and Suppliers) has brought us into contact with the world’s most influent and important butterfly farms and to exchange with these. We are proud of our partnership with influent insect societies such as the Insectarium de Montréal and the Maison des insectes de Québec (MDI).

Furthermore, I am now a technical assistant and counsellor for new butterfly breeding farms located in Central America, like the El Bosque Nuevo project in Costa Rica, which I have visited and helped achieve a successful breeding operation in 2003. I am also helping new butterfly farm project in other countries and i'm always interrested in helping foreign butterfly breeding projects, so don't hesitate contacting me if you need help!
Our ceaselessly growing installations had to be updated during the years, but we recently started to feel the need to expand our activities in a very significant manner. Consequently, we recently completed the construction of our new breeding farm on a 100 acres location. The latter has allowed us to expand our activities, to breed new species and greater quantities of butterflies.

We are also working on an aviary project for tourists in the Granby area, which will come into being in 2009. An exhaustive and interactive insect museum, an aviary full of living butterflies as well as a huge outdoor butterfly garden (with butterfly-favourite plants) will be open from May to October for the pleasure of kids, adults, tourists and every Eastern Townships resident.
